Another Step… Walk This Way

Acceptance… we are still talking about it.

Read John 3:16 again.

The story is told of an Indian chief who was well known for being upright and courageous.  To establish justice, he set up a punishment system for crimes.  Even after the laws were enforced, stealing was still a problem.  Angered by the blatant law breaking, he increased the punishment for theft to a severe beating, which left the criminal hanging onto life and often dead.  Not long after the decree, a thief was caught.  To the chief’s horror it was his mother.  He was in turmoil.  Would he allow his mother to suffer and potentially die?  His tribe began to wager, some thinking him to be cruel and some thinking he would opt for leniency.  The day arrived.  To the shock of many, the chief had his mother tied between two posts.  At her age, she would certainly die.  Just before the first ear piercing lashing he jumped forward, wrapping his arms around the mother’s small frame and absorbing the entire punishment on his own back.

Just like the chief, the intense love Jesus has for us led him to take our blame, our punishment.

Read Romans 5:8

Jesus Christ died for us!  Jesus’ death paid the price of our sin.

God send His Son to die in our place for our sin against his laws.  Because he desperately wants to be close to us.

Jesus made the sacrifice.

Jesus accepted the justice.

Jesus received the punishment.

Jesus took the pain.

All for us.

For God so loved… You

That He gave His only Son… to receive your wages, your pain, your punishment, in you place.

So you will not face death, separation from Him

But you will live forever with Him… if you believe.

Today think about what the Bible means by “believe”.
